A novel maximum power point tracking method based on particle swarm optimization combined with one cycle control

This paper presents a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) combined with one cycle control for photo voltaic systems under partial shaded condition. Algorithms like perturb and observe (P&O) and incremental conductance (IC) are very effective in maximum power point tracking under uniform irradiance condition. However under partial shaded condition, they fail to track the global MPP and get converged to local MPP. The proposed tracking algorithm overcome this technical challenge and can effectively determine the global MPP. Numerous simulation studies are carried out on different PV configurations under different shading conditions. Results obtained illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
