Improvement of the electrical properties of polyimide films with silicon nitride nanoparticles

In this paper, we propose to study the effects of silicon nitride (Si
₃
N
₄
) nanoparticles on the electrical conduction of polyimide (PI) films used as insulating materials for electronics applications. By playing with a low filler content of Si
₃
N
₄
(with a size of 20-40 nm), it is possible to develop important nanodielectric effects and to better control the trapping parameters. The results highlight an important decrease in the DC electrical conductivity over a large temperature range up to 350 °C for the PI/Si
₃
N
₄
nanocomposites compared to neat PI films.
