A quasi self-complementary UWB MIMO antenna having WLAN-band notched characteristics

In this paper, a four-element MIMO antenna based on quasi-self-complementary (QSC) elements is proposed, which has ultra-wideband (UWB) characteristics (3.1–10.6 GHz) with notch-band in upper WLAN frequency range (5.15–5.85 GHz). The UWB elements are trapezoidal shaped monopoles having complementary cuts in the ground plane. The WLAN-band notched feature is realized by use of slit-cuts from these UWB monopoles. Orthogonal placement of elements provides the pattern-diversity characteristics and high inter-element isolation. The proposed concept is validated by experimental measurements on fabricated MIMO antenna prototype.
