Evaluation on energy consumption in small-scaled agarwood distillation pot for PID controller

This paper presents the comparison of PID controller for ZN and AMIGO tuning rules in hydro distillation process. Both tuning rules undergone the performance of controller tests which are step test, set point change and load disturbances. The comparative performances of PID-AMIGO and PID-ZN were evaluated and analysed based on transient responses such as settling time, rise time, percentage of overshoot and energy consumption via simulation. The results show that PID-AMIGO gives better performances in term of transient response for step test and load disturbance but poor response for set point change. Moreover, in term of energy consumption, an integral absolute control signal (IACS) has been used to evaluate the energy that have been consumed. For step test and load disturbance, the result indicates that, PID-AMIGO produced lower energy consumption compared to PID-ZN. However, PID-ZN consumed less energy usage for set point change test.
