A three-port bidirectional buck-boost regulator optimised for solar lighting applications

In this work, a low component count three-port buck-boost converter is proposed. This converter has only two active components and three passive components. The converter is optimised for renewable energy utilisation where energy is stored in batteries for some period and discharged into the load in another period. Solar street lighting is a typical application. The proposed circuit was analysed, simulated, and proved to be well-suited for the application. A 100W LED solar street lighting was selected as an example to verify and design the converter.
