A multiband monopole antenna with arrow-shaped aperture-coupled resonators

For applications in WiMAX/WLAN, a planar printed monopole antenna is proposed. The antenna design is consisted of a U-shaped radiation patch with a linear gradient microstrip line configuration and a pair of L-shaped slots etched in ground, covering the 5.2/5.8-GHz WLAN operation bands and enhancing the impedance matching greatly. With a T-shaped strip loaded in the radiation patch, the impedance bandwidth also cover the 3.5-GHz WiMAX band. While the WLAN 2.4 GHz can be realized by introducing arrow-shaped slots in the radiation patch and rectangular patches under it. The simulation result shows that the proposed antenna provides an ultra-wide bandwidth (UWB) of more than 21% (4.94 GHz~6.12 GHz), with the radiation pattern and current distributions analyzed respectively. Moreover, the measurement of the fabricated prototype is coincided with the simulation of the designed antenna.
