Design and development of controller for bosch 4.2oxygen sensor using dSPACE tools: Controller designed using Matlab Simulink and controldesk

Emission control system in automobiles is employed to limit the discharge of obnoxious gases into the atmosphere. The engine exhaust from the crankcase, from the fuel tank and the carburetor contribute to these emissions. Every automobile comes with two exhaust gas sensors, the primary UGEO (Universal Gas Exhaust Oxygen) sensor is placed after the exhaust value whereas the secondary is placed after the catalytic converter. The sensor is extremely complex and requires its own controller. The control method used here is PID along with PWM. The parameters that need to be controlled are the temperature at which the sensor is maintained and the pump current in the pump cell. The control algorithm is implemented with Matlab Simulink and with the help of ControlDesk 3.2 user interface can be easily implemented. The layout design can be achieved using Control Desk 3.2. With the help of all the dSPACE tools a C program is generated for the Simulink Model too. With this method of control, the controller can be deployed for test purposes on multiple automobiles simultaneously and check the working of the sensor and the virtual controller and then with the help of the generated C program a more permanent controller can be designed.
