Controller-hardware-in-the-loop simulation of a distribution system with PV penetration using RTDS and dSPACE

Nowadays, there is a strong discussion about future distribution network and the interaction between today's electric grid and renewables. In this paper, a Controller-Hardware-In-The-Loop simulation of Photovoltaic System (PV) integration to the distribution grid is performed in real time using a RTDS and dSPACE. An adapted version of IEEE 13 Node Test System, with two different Distributed Generation (DG), PV system and a Diesel Generator, is used to test the control of power converters in HIL. Voltage and frequency deviations are checked for different scenarios. Results validate the proposed control strategy, showing the system's response in a situation closer to reality.
