Spiral, a new interaction technique for 3DOF with only one finger: Concepts and preliminary tests

Tactile interfaces became the most widely used interfaces. That raised many problems already present with traditional interfaces: how to better exploit the inputs that comes from the 2D input interface? Our proposition, the Spiral technique, provides a way to manage a third-dimension input with the principle of screwing or unscrewing. The first part of this paper presents the formalization of the proposition and the second part describes preliminary tests. The results show good acceptation from the users and good performances for task completion time with a task that doesn't require high precision.
