The viability of conductive medical epoxy as an implantable electrode material

Electrodes are an important part of any medical implant for making biopotential measurements, but current designs have shortcomings. This paper shows the viability of conductive medical epoxy as an electrode material for implants. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy characterization of the electrodes suggested the feasibility with reasonable impedance results in saline solutions. After fabricating a sample electrode configuration with conductive medical epoxy, in vivo subcutaneous testing provides satisfactory electroencephalograms and electrocardiograms. Using conductive medical epoxy could provide greater flexibility during the implant design process.
