A Water-Filling Theory Based Power Control Scheme in Two-Tier Cellular Network

To meet the imperative need for ubiquitous mobile communication, the infrastructure of the next-generation mobile system, i.e. 5G, is developing toward a densely distributed cellular network with multiple tiers of base stations and access technologies serving users with different mobility styles and variant bandwidth demands. Therefore, strategy of power control and interference mitigation is becoming to be a more important issue. This paper provides a mobile station power control algorithm within a 5G two-tier cellular infrastructure. The algorithm is based on Water-filling theory and is aimed at maximizing system capacity of the network. Simulation results indicate that, compared to the traditional power control scheme which simply aimed at obtaining a fixed target SINR, the proposed scheme improves system capacity based on an equivalent or even lower power consumption.
