Split-half spectrum sensing for different PU access of cognitive radio systems under noise uncertainty environments

In this paper, we propose a novel spectrum sensing method that is split-half spectrum sensing (SHSS). This method combines the advantage between ED and MED. Our technique considers PU access spectrum band anytime in sensing period and noise uncertainty environments. For improving the sensing time, we split the sensing period in haft: forepart and back part. We use only the latter part to detect PU status. In simulation results, we compare our technique with ED and MED under 2 noise uncertainty values and 3 cases of PU access. Two parameters are used for evaluation in our performance includes the probability of detection and sensing time. Simulation results show that the proposed technique gives the best value of the probability of detection for all techniques and uses lower sensing time than MED method.
