High-resolution range profile synthesis based on a new radar waveform

A new waveform for high-resolution range profile synthesis with flexible bandwidth scalability is proposed in this paper. Its ambiguity function and frequency spectrum characteristics are spelled out. The signal employs a bounded function in the time domain to broaden bandwidth with time linearly. In the wideband case, the proposed waveform is easier to be generated than the standard chirp signal with the same bandwidth. Furthermore, it is innovatively utilized in high-resolution range profile for moving targets after being modulated by random frequency-stepped signal. Numerical simulations validate the feasibility and superiority of the proposed scheme.
