A novel consequent-pole hybrid excited vernier permanent-magnet machine for EV/HEV applications

The paper proposes a novel consequent-pole HEVPMM (CP-HEVPMM) with DC field windings located between flux modulation poles which can easily adjust flux density. The CP-HEVPMM could operate at low-speed with high torque density and at high-speed with flux-weakening controlling due to adopt the vernier machine structure and DC field windings, respectively. In order to minimize the torque fluctuation, the preliminary designs including various combinations of the stator slots and rotor poles will be discussed in this paper. The finite element method (FEM) is used to analyze electromagnetic performance of CP-HEVPMM including back-electromagnetic force (back-EMF), cogging torque, and average torque.
