Mechanochoromic luminescent behavior of amide-terminated rod-like liquid crystal

Mechanoresponsive β-cyanostilbene derivative containing amide terminal was prepared and its photoluminescent properties was explored. The photoemission color of the compound changed from blue to green upon mechanically grinding. We also prepared polymeric composite film to achieve MCL patterning. The composite film shows blue-green photoluminescence at initial state and it turns green upon mechanically grinding, while the color change is reversibly observed after the mechanically ground film is thermally annealed. Patterning of color change with handwriting was successfully demonstrated.
