New corona resistant wire insulation for traction applications

The insulation systems of traction motors are exposed to high levels of the `TEAM' stresses (thermal, electrical, ambient & mechanical) and must therefore consist of high performance materials. Any changes must be carefully tested to ensure that the modified insulation system maintains the same performance levels. In this article, we present the process for finding and testing alternative materials for traction motor winding wire insulation.
