Statistical study of discharge dynamics based on time and space distribution

The objective of this work has been to couple statistical behaviour of discharges with their spatial propagation. This study is based on a previous paper where the statistical charge emission for different kind of grounded rod tips was analyzed and compared. Now, the analysis has been extended to longer gaps and different rod shapes. It has also been completed with a temporal-spatial analysis to understand the pre-breakdown discharge activity. These measurements have been taken using ultraviolet light emission selective sensors and current sensors. The results show not only the viability of a qualitative analysis of discharge length with two light sensors pointing at different heights of the gap, but also differences on the statistical behaviour of discharges depending on applied high voltage and grounded electrode shape.
