Multi-level converter-based torque sharing function control strategy for switched reluctance motors

In this paper, a novel torque sharing function (TSF)-based direct instantaneous torque control (DITC) strategy is presented to reduce the torque ripple for switched reluctance motors (SRMs) by using a multi-level converter. The corresponding control algorithm is described and analyzed during the different conduction regions in detail. By using the new converter topology, the TSF-based DITC can compensate the voltage limitation of the conventional converter and accelerate the magnetization and demagnetization during the commutation region to achieve quick torque tracking, which helps to improve the SRM dynamic performance and efficiency. The proposed torque control scheme is verified to reduce the torque ripple effectively by the simulation based on a 750 W, three-phase 12/8-pole SRM prototype.
