Enhancements of Raman oscillation and amplification and frequency upconversion by phonon-polariton resonances

In this presentation, we demonstrate that a novel waveguide configuration is introduced for the nonlinear optical interactions occurring in a second-order nonlinear medium. The key to the efficient conversion lies in the fact that the near-field and spatially-uniform non-propagating polariton field generated by the optical fields through second-order nonlinearity can efficiently mix with one of the optical fields. As a result, one can efficiently achieve enhancements of Raman oscillation, frequency upconversion, and Raman amplification.
