Design of anisotropic metasurface and its application for polarization beam splitter

A transmitted polarization beam splitter is proposed in this paper based on phase gradient metasurface. By putting the phase distribution combined by gradient and hyperboloidal phase profiles on an anisotropic metasurface, the sample has ability of both enhancing gain and splitting x/y-polarized waves. Consistent numerical and experimental results have both validated the improved gain of 10.5 dB against the feed source and the splitting effect with isolates degree of 30dB between co and cross polarized waves. Morover, the thickness of the proposed metasurface is 3mm which is ultra-thin against the wavelength at 15GHz. The proposed prescription opens up a new route for the applications of anisotropic metasurface in microwave band.
