A composite metasurface for end-fire scattering with articial magnetic conductor lattice-like arrangement

In this letter, a composite metasurface for end-fire scattering is designed, fabricated and characterized. Based on the principle of scattering cancelation and method of end-fire antenna array, we proposed the lattice-like arrangement composite metasurface (LACMS). When EM waves normally illuminates on the metasurface, the scattering energy redistributes to the end-fire direction. Compared with the typical chessboard arrangement, the bandwidth of RCS reduction is expanded by 50%. Moreover, due to the symmetry of AMC blocks and arrangement, LACMS is insensitive to the polarization of incident waves. The measured results indicate that the RCS of LACMS of normal incidence is decreased above 10 dB from 8.0 GHz to 8.9 GHz compared with the same-size metallic board. The RCS in the end-fire direction increased as predicted proving that the energy is scattered into end-fire direction efficiently.
