Environmental economic dispatch of hydrothermal energy system using stud differential evolution

The trends of reducing the lethal and harmful emissions in many developed countries has restricted the power producing companies to keep their lethal fuel emissions of (COx, SOx, NOx) within certain permissible limits. Hence, the problem of economic dispatch of hydrothermal energy systems has been slightly altered to the problem of Environmental Economic Dispatch of Hydrothermal Energy Systems (EEDHES). This paper proposes a new method using a new variant in conventional Differential Evolution (DE) called as Stud Differential Evolution (SDE) algorithm to solve this EEDHES problem. The conventional DE method generates initial trial vectors and then combines arithmetic operators with conventional mutation and crossover operations to generate new offspring's. But in SDE, Stud Crossover (SC) operator is introduced in which the best vector the stud shares its optimal information for all other individual vectors. The proposed approach successfully solved all the three cases of the standard EEDHES test system consisting of four hydroelectric and three thermal plants. Experimental results revealed the superiority of the proposed SDE over many other standard techniques.
