Modified MRAC for Controlling Water Level of Boiler System

In many Industrial applications, Boiler drum level is a critical variable in the safe operation of a boiler. A low drum level risks uncovering the water tubes and exposing them to heat stress and damage. High drum level risks water carryover into the steam header and exposing steam turbines to corrosion and damage. Because of this nonlinear function and uncertainties of a boiler system, PID Controller cannot maintain water level properly. So in this paper we have design a Modified Model Reference Adaptive Controller (MRAC) to overcome the uncertainties and nonlinearities and gives desired output. Simulation results show better performance of Modified MRAC as compare to MRAC and PID. Modified MRAC Shows improved response on the basis of rise time, settling time and overshoot.
