Abstract:

This work shows the design and manufacturing of a compact antenna array for use as controlled radiation pattern array (CRPA) in satellite navigation applications. The array has dual band capability for the Galileo Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) at E5a and E1 bands. The overall size of the array is only 10 cm × 10 cm and this enables it to be used in applications where compactness is a key factor. The small dimension of the array implies a close arrangement of the antennas, thus producing mutual interaction between the elements, with potential performance degradation. A solution to such problem is proposed in the paper, making use of a metallic wall, managing to reduce the coupling.
