Stochastic modeling and analysis of DTN networks

The delay tolerant networks (DTN) are essentially based on Bundle layer to provide a better interoperability between different networks and enable a heterogeneous network through lower layers. They are also characterized by the dynamicity of their nodes and the absence of pre-existing infrastructure. Data interactions in a DTN environment involve multiple unpredictable jumps and they are done on a very long delay because of the intermittent connectivity, making data delivery more difficult in DTN scenarios. Therefore, the nodes storage characteristics and capacities are essential factors influencing the quality of data delivery in a DTN environment. In this work, we propose a Markov model of temporal random graphs and we give a model the evolution of bundles distribution in time by a continuous-time birth-death Markov process, in addition to the model of the probability of delivery success of bundles in a DTN environment under the constraint of their residence time and their storage space. In the end, we will present simulation results demonstrating the effectiveness of the topology and the routing protocol, especially for networks with high nodes density.
