Goal Oriented Requirements Engineering Supported by the SEMAT Kernel

The goal-oriented requirements engineering supports the requirements management by using an approach driven by goals. These goals can represent either strategic concerns or technical concerns. Several goal-oriented methods have been proposed, for example KAOS, GBRAM, TROPOS, and I*, among others. However, these approaches exhibit some shortcomings related to multiple interpretations. So, the integration and comparison of diverse GORE (Goal-Oriented Requirements Engineering) methods are difficult. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate that SEMAT can be used for achieving a better understanding of the GORE methods. Consequently, the relationships among these methods are easier to treat. This work demonstrates the benefits of using the SEMAT kernel for representing the KAOS method.
