Abstract:
This investigation is aimed at comparing the properties of the powders obtained by the methods of electric explosion of wires (EEW) and electric spark-dispersion of metal granules in water. Differences in the samples' properties caused by the physicochemical characteristics of the production processes are determined in the paper. It is shown that the electric explosion of aluminum wires in a mixture of argon and 25% oxygen results in the formation of particles consisting mainly of γ-Al2O3. Electric explosion of aluminum wires in argon allows the production of particles consisting only of metallic aluminium. Subsequent reaction of the electroexplosive Al metal powder with water leads to the formation of a nanofibrous product composed mainly of AlO(OH). Electric-spark dispersion of Al granules directly in water makes it possible to produce powders that consist of aluminium oxyhydroxides.
