Using the VSim GUI to visualize high-order FV24 simulations of electrically large systems

A three-dimensional second-order in time, fourth-order in space finite difference time-domain (FV24) algorithm is used in conjunction with the VSim electromagnetic (EM) simulation software package to completely model electrically large problems. FV24 has low numerical dispersion for electrically large EM problems with large grid sizes. Visualization of a 160×160×160 EM simulation allows a deeper understanding of the complex electromagnetic phenomena in the example. Graphical processing units (GPUs) are used to execute the Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) Fortran parallel implementation of the FV24 algorithm. Cutting-edge GPUs are evaluated for use with FV24 to reduce the algorithm's execution time.
