A bottom-up approach to developing innovative resistive sensors

Innovative, miniature-sized humidity sensors and strain gauges were realized from colloidal gold nanoparticle assemblies on rigid silicon and flexible polyimide substrates, fabricated by convective self-assembly. Both of these are low energy consuming resistive sensors of high sensitivities, which make them very good candidates for developing sensor networks. The results described in this report demonstrate that colloidal nanoparticles can be highly promising building blocks for developing innovative industrial devices.
