Combining polarimetric and coherence SAR images for forest type discrimination

We have investigated the ability to use several satellite SAR sensors in order to map forest types in the Arctic region. Radarsat-2 full polarimetric data can be decomposed and used to discriminate between forest and non-forest areas, while COSMO-SkyMed 1-day interferometric coherence data are used to extract forest types of various densities.
