SMES-based hybird energy storage for fast and large power compensation

The superconducting magnetic energy system (SMES) is introduced to form new hybrid energy storage systems (ESSs). The results obtained verify that the SMES-based hybrid ESSs suit to achieve ms-level fast power compensation and MW-level large power compensation in power system. The SMES-based hybrid ESSs can also reduce the total capital cost and improve the operation efficiency, which make the large-scale low-cost high-performance high-efficiency ESSs available for practical applications.
