A simulation of realistic sketching by randomized pencil strokes

A novel simulation technique for realistic pencil-drawn sketches is proposed. The novelty of the proposed technique lies in incorporation of a randomization factor while sketching a figure out of a set S of (irreducible) digital curve segments. The set S corresponds to a real-world object, which is actually the object to be sketched in an artistic way. The fact that an artist often uses irregular strokes and sub-strokes with varying shades while sketching, is realistically captured in our randomized approach. Some sketched segments get lightly shaded compared to other heavily-shaded ones, and a sub-segment also may be lighter or deeper in shade compared to the rest of the segment—in a pseudo-random or mystic manner—which characterizes our algorithm. Some experimental results have been furnished to demonstrate the efficacy and elegance of the proposed technique.
