BANKS: a decision support system for the evaluation of the complex international banking sector

BANKS is an integrated decision support system for financial evaluation in today's complex international banking sector. It contains two parts: a database including basic data gathered from the last four annual reports of over 600 banks in the world, and a complete financial evaluation module. The main elements of the assets, liabilities and income statement are presented in a standard form and fifteen financial ratios are computed. Besides more classical analysis displays, the PROMETHEE and GAIA multicriteria methods are used to position each bank with respect to user-defined reference markets. The system has been designed with user friendliness in mind. It has been implemented on microcomputer and high resolution graphics are used to enhance its efficiency.<
