Smarter Energy
The Energy and Utility industry is undergoing a renaissance with the advent of a number of game-changing innovations. These innovations provide a vision and actual implementation of real-time and sustainable grid operations and planning, clean energy, and demand-response management. The core technologies providing the basis for the innovation include predictive asset management; real-time distributed energy management; renewables integration coupled with precise forecasting of wind, solar, and hydroelectric energy; the smart management of vast quantities of instrument data; and sustainable long-term planning. This issue of the IBM Journal of Research and Development emphasizes new solutions, models, analytics, and other technologies that form important building blocks for fostering Smarter Energy.
