    This year, more so than others, time seems to be flying by at a supernatural rate. I was convinced, for example, that my calendar was committing an act of perjury when it indicated that the time had come to write this second President's Report. After all, only yesterday I was mainlining coffee and burning the midnight oil to write my first report. The phrase often invoked to explain this illusion is “time flies when you're having fun.” I must say that these are exciting times for the Circuits and Systems Society and that I have enjoyed my first half year as the Society President.   • Volterra series analysis of intermodulation distortion in second-order active filters

    The nonlinear performance of second-order active filters using single and two operational amplifiers at high frequencies and/or large-signal levels is investigated. A general procedure using the Volterra series is presented to allow comparison of different filter types regarding intermodulation distortion, and to provide means for improvement. Experimental and theoretical results compare favorably, demonstrating the accuracy of the analysis technique. It is shown that intermodulation distortion for single amplifier filters is much larger than for two-amplifier circuits. View full abstract»

  • Design of high-frequency amplifiers

    Two novel active compensated noninverting and inverting finite gain amplifier circuits are reported. Compensation is achieved by using two extra operational amplifiers and four resistors. The proposed amplifiers have negligible phase and magnitude errors over a prescribed frequency range. The inverting amplifier has the attractive advantage of an infinite input impedance. The Circuits and Devices Magazine covers the design, implementation, packaging, and manufacture of micro-electronic and photonic devices, circuits and systems.

 

This Magazine ceased production in 1984. The current retitled publication is IEEE Circuits and Devices Magazine.
