    UAHPL (Universal Hardware Programming Language) is an extension of AHPL (A Hardware Programming Language). It is a register transfer language, which allows the specification of many low-level details for efficient implementation of digital systems in MOS technology. Large iterative circuits, such as arithmetic logic units can be expressed conveniently in an Algol-like notation. The language has been implemented by means of a multistage compiler, which supports a wide spectrum of design activities including testing. The salient features of the language are discussed and the UAHPL description is translated into n-MOS layouts. View full abstract»

    Major developments by the telephone industry have launched a worldwide effort to convert the network into an integrated services digital network (ISDN). The digital transmission issues are explored as they pertain to the subscriber two-wire loop, and the large-scale-integrated (LSI) circuit functions, analog and digital, that are required to extend digital capabilities to the subscribers' premises in a cost-effective manner.   • Circuit design for nuclear radiation test of CMOS multiplier chips

    The design of a microprocessor-based electronic circuit to be used in testing the effects of nuclear radiation on a CMOS 8×8 multiplier chips is described. The multiplier chip undergoing testing is attached to a DUT (device under test) board which is enclosed in a metal container. The container is then lowered to the cobalt 60 radiation source located at the bottom of a 15-ft deep pool. The in-source test board containing the multiplier chip is attached to an Intel 8085-based, single-board microcomputer (SDK-85) by a 30-ft multiconductor diode. Doses of gamma-ray radiation from cobalt 60 are applied in steps at increasing quantities until the multipliers chip, which is tested between doses, begins to malfunction. An 8085 assembly language program is used for functional testing of the multiplier. The leakage current and the propagation delay time are also measured between doses. View full abstract»

  • Simulations for sinusoidal oscillators with random numbers and initial impulses

    A discrete-time-domain numerical method for simulating complete sinusoidal oscillator properties is discussed. Two modes for the spontaneous starting of oscillations can be simulated. The first mechanism results from the remnant electrical noise in the circuit, and the second mechanism is due to the transients when the power supply is switched on abruptly. The amplifier nonlinearities, as well as the automatic amplitude control function, can also be incorporated into the simulation. Very efficient computational algorithms for the major classes of real oscillators are presented. Experimental results show the accuracy of the simulated results. It is suggested that this simulation method can be used as a powerful tool for both transient and steady-state analysis, and for the design of sinusoidal oscillators. View full abstract»
