We present a 4 : 1 superconducting transmission-line impedance transformer for cryogenic applications. The device transforms 25 Ω in the coplanar waveguide to 6.25 Ω in the microstrip and is designed to operate at 20 mK. Calibrated measurements in a dilution refrigerator demonstrate a -3 dB bandwidth from 1.6 to 13 GHz. In a modified Ruthroff design, a small capacitor is integrated a... View full abstract»

We fabricate superconductor-graphene-superconductor Josephson junctions with superconducting regions made of lead (Pb). The critical current through graphene may be modulated by the external magnetic field; the resulting Fraunhofer interference pattern shows several periods of oscillations, suggesting that the junction is uniform. Deviations from the perfect Fraunhofer pattern are observed, and th... View full abstract»

A spin drive device of superconducting rotor was designed based on the Meissner effect. The electromagnetic field generated by the stator coils engenders the rotating torque on the superconducting rotor through the windows on its inner wall. The driving force was calculated using finite-element analysis, and the results show that the driving torque is approximately proportional to the square of th... View full abstract»

In this paper, we explore modifying the field of a permanent magnet through the use of the Meissner effect, motivated by application to a helicon plasma source. The use of a high-temperature superconducting material is more practical for maintaining a system-wide critical temperature, and it is therefore the focus of our investigation. The field supplied by a permanent magnet is confined to the in... View full abstract»

A quench protection system has been proposed for an 8-T split superconducting magnet consisting of low-temperature superconducting (LTS) NbTi coils and high-temperature superconducting (HTS) Bi2223 coils. For the LTS coils, a code has been developed to adjust the circuit parameters and the heater geometry. The calculation method of the internal electric potential in the LTS coil is introduced. For... Quench detection and protection in REBa2Cu3O7-δ (REBCO) coated conductor (CC)-based superconducting magnets is difficult due to slow normal zone propagation velocity and the multilayer composite architecture of the conductor. To design effective quench detection and protection methods, it is essential to know the electrical, thermal, and structural behavior ... View full abstract»

A 6-T conduction-cooled superconducting (SC) magnet was successfully developed with the Institute of High Energy Physics of China. The magnet mainly consists of a NbTi solenoid coil, a cryostat with two thermal shields, a Gifford-McMahon cryocooler (35 W/50 K, 1.5 W/4.2 K), and a pair of binary current leads. The coil has an inner diameter of 110 mm, an outer diameter of 200 mm, and a height of 21... View full abstract»

High-temperature superconductors (HTSs) including HTS bulks and tapes have potential applications in linear motion drive and magnetic levitation/suspension systems generating substantial advantages over conventional ones. When an HTS linear motor is integrated with an HTS magnetic suspension subsystem, it can inherit both merits of HTS linear motion drive and HTS magnetic suspension simultaneously...
