Prediction of the polar ice sheets' contribution to sea-level change has prompted an intensive glacial characterization with fine spatial and temporal resolution. To provide key metrics required by predictive mass balance models including surface topography, ice thickness, and basal conditions (topography, roughness, frozen or wet boundary conditions, grounding-line position), an expanding series of data collection campaigns have been conducted over the last two decades involving ground-based, airborne, and spaceborne instruments. A new approach, SRR, for small infrared target detection in single image is described herein. SRR is based on local self-similarity descriptor, according to the characteristics of small infrared targets. Using the SRR, the certainty of small targets can be easily measured. Compared to some conventional cutter removal methods, extensive experimental results show that the proposed approach outperforms these methods. Additionally, the proposed approach has a simple structure, which is convenient for implementation. Plans for future research include incorporating efficiently temporal information to further improve detection performance. View full abstract»

Herein, we presented the design result of the GAK GPS/INS system. The navigation system has dual-coupled methods due to the installation configuration of the GAK. Before the GGB jettison, GGB is navigated in loosely-coupled GPS/INS navigation, while a tightly-coupled GPS/INS navigation is used after jettison. We also described the test methods to evaluate the navigation performance. With fourteen monitoring parameters related to the navigation Kalman filter and PDU, we determined the status of loosely-coupled GPS/INS navigation systems before the GGB jettison. After jettison, we proved that the navigation system met the performance requirement using the DGPS post-process method. View full abstract»

All AESS Chapters and IEEE Sections are enocouraged to take advantage of the AESS Distinguished Lecturers & Tutorials Program for their regular or special meetings. We have selected an outstanding list of speakers who are experts in their fields. The AES Society will pay reasonable speaker's expenses for economy-class travel, lodging, and meals. As a general guideline, speaker's expenses involving travel wholly within North America or within the European Union will be covered up to $1000. Expenses involving extensive international travel will be covered up to $2000. The Society encourages arrangements whereby more than one lecture is presented in a single trip, and costs in such situtions will be considered on a case-by-case basis. This inviting organization is expected to cover 50% of the speaker's expenses. View full abstract»
