  • Planning to plan — Integrating control flow

    Publication Year: 2003, Page(s):1 - 7
IEEE is not the copyright holder of this material | Click to expandAbstract | PDF file iconPDF (2482 KB)

In many planning situations, computation itself becomes a resource to be planned and scheduled. We model such computational resources as conventional resources which are used by control-flow actions, e. g., to direct the planning process. Control-flow actions and conventional actions are planned/scheduled in an integrated way and can interact with each other. Control-flow actions are then executed... View full abstract»

We introduce a hybrid algorithm for the 0–1 multidimensional multi-objective knapsack problem. This algorithm, called GTSMOKP, combines a genetic procedure and a tabu search operator. The algorithm is evaluated on 9 well-known benchmark instances and shows highly competitive results compared with two state-of-the-art algorithms. View full abstract»

A genetic algorithm to solve the set covering problem proposed in the literature had some improvements which gave better solutions, i. e., better chromosomes in the first starting population, taking full account of domain specific knowledge with sound programming skill. We have further investigated the input data dependency of their genetic algorithm, i. e., the dependency on costs and density. We... View full abstract»

  • Project scheduling using hybrid genetic algorithm with fuzzy logic controller in SCM environment

In supply chain management (SCM) environment, we consider a resource-constrained project scheduling problem (rcPSP) model as one of advanced scheduling problems considered by a constraint programming technique. We develop a hybrid genetic algorithm (hGA) with a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) to solve the rcPSP which is the well known NP-hard problem. This new approach is based on the design of genet... In this paper an order relation and a ranking method for type-2 fuzzy values are proposed. In order to compare type-2 fuzzy sets, the concepts of satisfaction function for continuous fuzzy values, h-Ievel type-2 fuzzy values and strong order relation are introduced. The proposed method is an approach based on the possibility theory, and it generates a ranking sequence with the greatest possibility... View full abstract»

  • Nonadditive set functions defined by aumann fuzzy integrals

    Publication Year: 2003, Page(s):37 - 42
IEEE is not the copyright holder of this material | Click to expandAbstract | PDF file iconPDF (1241 KB)

A novel concept, called nonadditive set-valued measure, is first defined as a monotone and continuous set function. Then the interconnections between nonadditive set-valued measure and the additive set-valued measure as well as the fuzzy measure are discussed. Finally, an approach to construct a nonadditive compact set-valued measure is presented via Aumann fuzzy integral. View full abstract»

This paper studies the hybrid flow-shop scheduling problem with no-wait restrictions. The production process consists of two machine centers, one has a single machine and the other has more than one parallel machine. A greedy heuristic named least deviation algorithm is designed and its worst case performance is analyzed. Computational results are also given to show the algorithm's average perform... • Maintenance policy for multi-component system with fuzzy lifetimes

The application of possibility theory to maintenance policies is proposed in this paper. The lifetime of a component is modeled as a fuzzy variable. Two types of replacement policies-block replacement and age replacement with fuzzy lifetimes are investigated. The theorems show that the long-run average fuzzy reward per unit time in both policies is just the expected cost per unit of time. In order... View full abstract»

In reality, processing times are often imprecise and this imprecision is critical for the scheduling procedure. This research deals with flow-shop scheduling in rough environment. In this type of scheduling problem, we employ the rough sets to represent the job parameters. The job processing times are assumed to be rough variables, and the problem is to minimize the makespan. Three novel types of ... View full abstract»

The concept of fuzzy measure was introduced by Sugeno in 1974. A notion of signed fuzzy measure is introduced in this paper, and its elementary properties are briefly discussed. An analogue of Hahn decomposition theorem is established under the null-null-additive condition. A version of the Jordan decomposition theorem is proved under the null-additive condition. This paper introduces the concept of semi-continuity of complex fuzzy functions, and discusses some of their elementary properties, such as the sum of two complex fuzzy functions of type I upper (lower) semi-continuity is type I upper (lower) semi-continuous, and the opposite of complex fuzzy functions of type I upper (lower) semi-continuity is type I lower (upper) semi-continuous. Many fields require the zeros of orthogonal polynomials. In this paper, the middle variable was improved to give a new asymptotic approximation, with error bounds, for the Jacobi polynomials Pn(α, β) (cose θ) (0 ≤ θ ≤ π/2,α,β >−1), as n →+ ∞. An accurate approximation with error ... View full abstract»

Dendritic morphology was simulated using a macro-and micro-coupled method. Since the microstructure of a whole casting cannot be easily analyzed, a scheme was developed to calculate the temperature of the whole casting with the microstructure analyzed by selecting one cell in the central region of the casting. The heterogeneous nucleation was described using a Gaussian distribution with the dendri... View full abstract»

To simulate the phenomena in the mold region of continuous casting by coupling fluid flow and solidification, a three-dimensional mathematical model has been developed based on the K-ε turbulence equations and the SIMPLER algorithm. A pseudo source term was introduced into the energy equation to account for the latent heat and kinetic energy. The fluid flow in the mushy zone was calculated ... View full abstract»

The arbitrary lagrange-Eulerian (ALE) finite element method (FEM) was successfully used to analyze fluid-structure interaction with a free surface. The fluid was regarded as a convection dominated incompressible viscous with the viscous and the slip boundary conditions. Generalized variational principles were established for the problem with farge amplitude sloshing due to the free fluid surface. ... View full abstract»
