Some of the current techniques used for fabricating two- and three-phase structures are described and factors which limit device performance are discussed.   • Design of type 2 diaital phase-locked loops

    The practical importance of digital phase-locked loops in which the phase error should be zero under locked conditions and in which frequency capture is automatically achieved has led naturally to the development of type 2 loops. The optimum design of these essentially non-linear, sampled data systems has led to digital computer studies in both the frequency and time domains. A universal frequency domain design chart is described which allows design for which relatively stable operation over a range of working is guaranteed. The paper includes a worked example and gives elementary rules of thumb for the prediction of settling time and bandwidth. View full abstract»

The first part, dealing with the theoretical procedures, discusses the design of easily testable combinational, sequential and iterative networks, illustrating major techniques with common running examples, whereas the second part comments on the more practical aspects such as board layout, test point siting and other facilities for easing the problems associated with testing.     A survey is made of some of the questions, comments and voiced doubts which have been raised by colleges, by lecturers and by students about the CEI Compulsory Subject: The Engineer in Society. In an attempt to provide answers to some of these, an examination is made of what the subject is attempting to do in both teaching and learning for the engineering profession. For the engineer's integrated accountability to be developed effectively, the young engineer should be put in a situation in which he can develop some introductory awareness of the complex interactions between resources, labour, finance, legislation, information and the needs and demands of society.
