The television antenna on board the UNISAT spacecraft will be used to broadcast television signals direct to individual households within the UK. The realisation of this highly complex antenna, right through from preliminary electrical design trade-offs to final electrical testing, is dominated by CAE techniques, either in the form of software tools for design analysis or through computer control ... The capabilities of industrial robots continue to be refined and extended, and it seems certain that robots will play an important role in the factory of the future. The flexibility of the new YES-MAN robot is such that it has potential applications in many CAE systems, such as PCB assembly and test. View full abstract»

The paper describes the changeover and the reasons for changeover from a manual PCB design system with computer processing to a wholly computer-based interactive system. The need for change and the criteria for the selection of a new system are identified. The chosen system is described and the advantages gained by its introduction are shown. Possible future extensions and developments are conside... View full abstract»

In the course of the design of a power station, the Generation Development and Construction Division of the CEGB would have to deal with thousands of conventionally generated drawings. The development of high-quality graphics screens and the availability of interactive processing have made it feasible for the Division to introduce a computer-aided drafting and design system into its operation.
