    A method is described for the calculation of the armature circuit inductance of DC machines by the finite element method (FEM), in which both the flux linkage and the stored energy methods are presented.     A synchronous motor having a bar stator winding fed from an integral phase-splitting transformer is described. The rotor magnet system is constructed from sintered samarium cobalt and reinforced with nonmagnetic stainless steel.
