Abstract | Full Text: PDF (723KB)
We present a framework to optimize the performance of a mobile ad hoc network over a wide range of operating conditions. It includes screening experiments to quantify the parameters and interactions among parameters influential to throughput. Profile-driven regression is applied to obtain a model of the non-linear behaviour of throughput. The intermediate models obtained in this modelling effort are used to adapt the parameters as the network conditions change, in order to maximize throughput. T... Read More »

In the past 30 years there has been a paradigmatic change in modelling, sharing and utilising knowledge from the perspective of centralised, controlled systems, to that of open, dynamic environments. This has been fueled mainly by advances and the ubiquity of the prototypical open environment - ldquoThe Webrdquo, and the increasing need for managing entities in such distributed systems. However, for these changes to occur, we need to revisit many of the underlying assumptions that have formed th... Read More »

Some of the most complicated issues about knowledge are its acquisition and its conversion into explicit and usable knowledge. Nevertheless, among all knowledge forms, storing decisional experience in a knowledge-explicit way becomes an important advance. We introduce the decisional DNA as a reflexive knowledge structure able of capturing organizations' decisional fingerprints in the form of explicit decisional experience. The construction of the decisional DNA is a journey that starts with a de... Read More »

A substantial amount of universitiespsila and institutespsila funding derives from their scientific achievements. Researchers are encouraged to publish new findings and ideas at an ever growing rate. How can the university keep track of the research of hundreds of scientists? How can the university rate departments and distribute funding according to scientific achievements? We present a distributed model for these tasks: a dedicated system for registering information about scientific publicatio... Read More »
The paper introduces the model of knowledge management system that handles some aspects of trustworthiness. A method of defining trustworthiness in semantic Web and reasoning over knowledge enriched with trust information is presented. The method provides a way of building trustworthiness information into the assertional part of an ontology. Defining trustworthiness is meant as assigning a set of features to unary and binary assertions. The model defines a ldquotrust ontologyrdquo - an ontology ... Read More »

The main goal of the paper is to introduce a framework of knowledge integration system. The framework is based on the ontology integration system described by Calvanese in [1], [2] and extends it to a multi-layer framework. The paper also shows how usage of cartographic representation of knowledge [3], [4] to store and process ontologies in knowledge sources and building mappings between ontologies allows for implementing efficient algorithms of query processing in a distributed environment of a... In this article, we introduce the necessary elements that must integrate a decisional technology that can offer trust and use them for the implementation of decisional trust systems. Thus, we refer to these elements as Decisional Trust, which can be achieved through the use of elements such as the Decisional DNA and the reflexive ontologies. Decisional Trust operates in two fronts: (i) the construction of Reflexive Ontologies as descriptions of concepts and relations with a set of self contained... Read More »

The paper introduces an extension to the NeeK language [2, 5]. In the current shape NeeK allows for selection of fragments of a given ontology. The selected part is automatically mapped to a database schema by data views implementation [7]. Experience with a real system using data views has shown that the resulting database schema does not necessarily reflect the needs of the business logic of an application that uses a specific data view. As a work around database views were used on top of data... Read More »

During the development of semantic Web there emerged a need for creating semantic descriptions of large domains of interest. However, it turned out that the large size of ontologies containing such descriptions led to many negative effects. As a result, the topics of distributing ontologies and ontology modularization gained major importance. The purpose of this paper is to present a novel approach to describe semantics of modules in distributed ontologies. We categorize problems that are encoun... Read More »

Reporting systems are important part in the software creating and customization process. Presenting information in a form of legible and user-friendly report is a basis for business decisions support. In OLAP systems, these actions have to be performed on-line what results in strict requirements regarding system's reliability and efficiency. The more complex the data warehouse the higher the costs of reports designing and maintaining process. Recently we can observe that data warehouse engine do... Read More »
