  • Background Suppression in a Gas-Scintillation Proportional Detector for Exotic-Atom X-Rays

This is an update of the report on a gasscintillation detector with a 7-cm diameter Be window for the detection of the K X-ray lines of exotic atoms such as pp, pD and K p (Ref. 1). Additional insulation eliminated breakdown at 9 kV to allow an improvement in background suppression. Timing markers from two scintillation regions combined with energy information, signals from guard detectors, and of... View full abstract»

Capacitor-grade polypropylene film was irradiated in air with a 1 MeV electron beam to different doses up to 108 rads and the post-irradiation effects on the electrical and mechanical properties of the film were evaluated. The electrical properties included the 60 Hz a. c. breakdown voltage, dielectric constant and dissipation factor. The dielectric constant and dissipation factor were obtained at... • Stability Analysis of a Nonlinear Coupled-Core Reactor Control System

    Publication Year: 1987, Page(s):1827 - 1833

In this paper, stability-equation method is applied to the analysis of a large coupled-core reactor control system having multiple nonlinearities and adjustable parameters. The characteristics of the limit-cycle and the asymptotically stable regions can be easily defined in a parameter plane. A numerical example is given and comparisons with other methods in current literature are made. View full abstract»

  • Sensitivity-Reduced Design for a Nuclear Pressurized Water Reactor

Application of optimal control theory to a pressurised water reactor is the theme of this paper. The multiinput mathematical model of the H. B. Robinson pressurised water reactor plant, reported by Kerlin et al is simplified to a single-input one. The optimal control problem of the linear model is treated as a regulator problem wherein the given quadratic index of performance including a sensitivi... View full abstract»

  • New Developments in the Computer Complex System for the JFT-2M Tokamak

    Publication Year: 1987, Page(s):1843 - 1851

The JFT-2M computer complex system of the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI) consists of a data acquisition system and a plasma control system. The data acquisition system is composed of a CAMAC serial highway, a front-end minicomputer, a super-minicomputer and their peripherals. The system constitutes a definite hierarchical structure. This provides for easy expansion and maintenance ... View full abstract»
