Using the projections as constraints, the reconstruction of an object from its fan beam projections is formulated and solved as a problem in constrained optimization. First a general cost criterion is optimized and the result is applied to several specific criteria. This produces a number of relationships (models) between the image and the Lagrange multipliers introduced by the Euler-Lagrange meth... View full abstract»

This paper compares the effectiveness, flexibility and speed of two CT reprojection polychromaticity algorithms generalized to scans involving three attenuators. Specifically, we address the problem of beam hardening in CT scans of water and bone taken by xray beams traversing varying amounts of aluminum prefiltration. The two methods are roughly equivalent in effectiveness. One has the advantage ... View full abstract»

While the computation time for reconstructing images in C.T. is not a problem in commercial systems, there are many experimental and developmental applications where resources are limited and image reconstruction places a heavy burden on the computer system. This paper describes a very efficient back-projection algorithm which results in large time savings when implemented in machine code. Also de... View full abstract»

Some problems of designing a control system of the heavy ion synchrotron in the project of the heavy ion acceleration facility are considered. The system includes approximately 200 dynamics and 1070 static inputs, and measures beam profiles in 1500 and control 176 points. Information flows have been calculated, organization of the control system of HIS and evaluation of its reliability have been m... View full abstract»

A large European e+e- Collider Project (LEP) has been under study at CERN since 1976. The history of these studies up to the 1979 US Particle Accelerator Conference has been described in a review paper. Since that time the design study has been continued. A detailed description of LEP Version 8, the Pink Book, was issued in August 1979. A review of later developments was given at the 11th Internat... View full abstract»

A new position-sensitive detector with a multiplexer readout system for synchrotron radiation measurements is described. The detector consists of many proportional chamber cells with capacitors for charge accumulation. Charges delivered from a detector cell are accumulated in an associated capacitor during a measuring time. The accumulated charges are transferred to a charge-sensitive amplifier th...
