The Risk Assessment Review Group was organized by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission on July 1, 1977, with four elements to its charter: (1) Clarify the achievements and limitations of WASH-1400, the "Rasmussen Report." (2) Assess the peer comments thereon, and responses to those comments. (3) Study the present state of such risk assessment methodology. (4) Recommend to the Commission how (and... By fitting a lognormal distribution to the data of Messenger and Steele a statistical analysis derives a formula for the survival probability, with 90 percent confidence, of a silicon transistor exposed to the neutron flux ¿ as: Ps(¿)=Fn[ln(C.T.F.-1)+ln(fTmin/ßmin/¿)+16.38/0.493] where Fn is the standard normal cumulative distribution function, C.T.F. is the circuit tolerance factor, fTmin is ... The solutions to the image reconstruction problem, in two and three dimensions, for both parallel and divergent ray geometries, are presented within a general linear reconstruction framework. It is shown that, with suitable parameterizations, each of these solutions reduces to a "convolve-and-backproject" algorithm. The exact solution to the three-dimensional divergent ray geometry problem is a ne... View full abstract»

Automotive exhaust gas catalysts contain palladium and platinum as the active material on an alumina substrate. Experiments were conducted to determine the amount of palladium and platinum that could be leached from fresh and aged automotive catalysts under various conditions. The conditions included soaking the catalyst samples in rain water to simulate environmental leaching from discarded catal... View full abstract»
