The student consumerism movement along with rapidly changing professional demands and opportunities are forces which will require engineering departments or colleges to inform new students more fully of their educational programs and career opportunities. The introductory engineering course is a natural place to provide such a service and yet if the current literature on engineering education and ... View full abstract»

Technological developments in electrical engineering in recent years include substantial progress in the power fields of transmission, distribution, and utilization. Consequently, in common with other disciplines of electrical engineering, these advances make necessary some changes in existing tertiary courses if they are to keep abreast of developing technology. This is the case both in the under... View full abstract»

The General Electric Student Engineering Program ("the Test") was a pioneering effort at entry-level trainii HE GREAT ing the electrical manufacturing industry. No mere extension of, or model for, college training, it sought not to educate, but to initiate, indoctrinate, and select. Through rotating assignments, it initiated the employee into a new work environment that stressed job completion and... View full abstract»

A square section conductor in a transverse alternating magnetic field has eddy current losses that are independent of the orientation of the square relative to the direction of the field. The proof of this result leads to some interesting general insights in the theory of low-frequency eddy currents. View full abstract»
