This paper reviews some of the most recent efforts in the development of undergraduate curricula in Computer Science and Engineering. Emphasis is placed on the curricula that have been proposed by the Association for Computing Machinery and the IEEE Computer Society. The relationships between the two sets of recommendations are discussed. View full abstract»

Men and women students representing a population of engineering students at 42 schools completed surveys at the end of their freshman year in college. Two samples of freshmen completed the surveys-students who entered in fall 1975, and those who entered in fall 1976. The surveys focused on freshman year activities and on career plans. Consistent differences between men and women were found for bot... View full abstract»

A university student is treated as an entrepreneur in his pursuit of education. In spite of this, he is not furnished with the entrepreneurial type of information on the state of his enterprise. Objective and subjective kinds of information about students and their progress are reviewed. Two functions of time called Relative Accomplishment and Relative Standing are defined; they characterize the l... View full abstract»

Project-based courses offer one of the greatest education opportunities in an electrical engineering student's undergraduate curriculum. The ultimate success of this type of educational experience is keyed primarily to 1) the selection of a project with a high chance of success along with the right amount of challenge and 2) adequate planning. Faculty may choose to avoid a microcomputer-based desi... View full abstract»

A project-oriented laboratory course in electronics has been introduced at the University of Lagos. It concerns the penultimate year of the degree program and consists of traditional experiments which are punctuated by short projects. The scheme has produced significant improvement in the final year independent work. Furthermore, student reaction to the scheme is encouraging. View full abstract»

In order to maximize the efficiency of teaching methods, a simple instructional machine was developed in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Chiba University. This machine has a feedback system, is easy to program and operate, and is capable of testing students. As a test case, this method was applied to an experiment in multivibrators for third year undergraduate students. An increase... View full abstract»
