The invention presented in this article is an energy-efficiency enhanced switched reluctance motor. The conventional one has flux reversals which means higher hysteresis and eddy current losses resulting in higher core losses and, hence, in lower efficiency. The invention described here overcomes this disadvantage with flux distribution for phase A and B excitations. The present invention also has... View full abstract»

Switched power converters today are essential for high-performance energy control in a large variety of applications. A central concern in the design of switched-mode power converters is the improvement of their dynamic behavior. The nonlinear passivity-based control (PBC) algorithms for switched converters have proven to be an interesting alternative to conventional control. The PBC objective is ... View full abstract»

Since the wide adoption of Internet technologies in manufacturing automation, integration has become one of the most advertised trends in the field. The concept of integration in automation is by no means new. It was first formulated in the mid 1970s with the computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) idea. Its aim was to integrate several already existing islands of computer-assisted manufacturing s... View full abstract»

In the steer-by-wire (SbW) system of new generation of vehicles the shaft of the conventional steering equipment is substituted by two electric drives. This article presents two schemes, termed torque and speed schemes, for the control of SbW system. The first scheme, designated with the torque scheme, is derived from the model of the conventional steering equipment, while the second one, designat... View full abstract»

Nowadays, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems are in use throughout the world, helping to supply a wide variety of critical loads, in situations of power outage or anomalies of the mains. This article describes the most common line problems and the relationship between these and the different existing kinds of UPS, showing their operation modes as well as the existent energy storage systems... Some congenital cardiopathies require "Fontan" pulmonary circulation. In this article, a special device to increase the flow and pressure in pulmonary arteries is presented. The system is formed by a dc motor plus a helix (generating a radial flow) and a stator, which converts the radial flow into a longitudinal flow. The main innovation of this device is the transmission between the motor and the... View full abstract»
