    The coupling of electromagnetic fields through CATV drop cables can be measured using the radiometer described in this paper. The theoretical analysis of this coupling, which began in 1934, is reviewed and the measurements agree with the predictions. Accordingly engineers can theoretically analyze and design coaxial cables.     The theory of intermodulation distortion is discussed and a direct intermodulation measurement technique is proposed for the lower order components when many carriers are amplified by a weakly nonlinear amplifier. IEEE Transactions on Cable Television (published between 1972 and 1980) included within its scope microwave, satellite earth stations, data transmission, fibre optics, receiving antennas and propagation, closed circuit origination facilities, home terminals, games and the whole range of promising applications for broadband communications network.
